DR. JOHN F. WALVOORD, CHANCELLOR EMERITUS of Dallas I Theological Seminary, went home to be with the Lord on December 20, 2002, at the age of ninety-two. When he became president of the Seminary in 1952, he also was appointed editor of Bibliotheca Sacra. He held these two positions until his retirement thirty-four years later, in 1986.

As the eighth editor in the 160-year history of Bibliotheca Sacra, Dr. Walvoord aggressively maintained the journal’s position as one of the world’s leading evangelical quarterlies. Between 1951 and 2001 he contributed 129 articles to the journal. The majority of the articles were on eschatological themes, while other articles dealt with a variety of other theological topics.

The Seminary has been greatly enriched by Dr. Walvoord’s leadership. The Seminary family-faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends-will miss this renowned theologian, competent professor, stalwart administrator, gifted Bible teacher and preacher, staunch defender of pretribulational premillennialism, prolific author, careful editor, and dear friend.

Roy B. Zuck, Th.D.
