The Popular Encyclopedia of Bible Prophecy. Edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson. Eugene, OR: Harvest House Publishers, 2004. 415 pp. $22.99.

With the instability of the world politically and morally many people are increasingly fascinated with Bible prophecy. This book presents an impressive collection of 140 essays on all aspects of prophetic truth in the Scriptures. Topics range from the Abomination of Desolation to Armageddon, from Covenants to Crowns, the Davidic Covenant to Dispensations, and Gog and Magog to the Great White Throne Judgment. Other topics are Heaven, Hell, the Mark of the Beast, the Marriage of the Lamb, Millennial Views, Resurrection, Seal Judgments, and the Seventy Weeks of Daniel.

Each topic is written from the perspective of pretribulational premillennialism. The forty-two contributors are professors, pastors, and other Christian leaders, many of whom are graduates of Dallas Seminary. Four authors presently serve on the Dallas Seminary faculty: Drs. Bailey, Johnson, Pentecost, and Toussaint.

For readers who may be confused about which approach to prophecy is valid, this book is for them. And for readers who are committed to pretribulational premillennialism but want answers to questions about certain prophetic issues this is the book for them.

Each topic is discussed thoroughly and cogently. Here is a sample of the views presented in the book: The twenty-four elders in Revelation 4 and 5 represent church-age believers; the Battle of Gog and Magog will occur in the first half of the seven-year Tribulation; the two witnesses in Revelation 11 are probably Moses and Elijah; the seal judgments will occur in the first half of the Tribulation; “this generation” in Matthew 24:34 refers to the generation of people who will see the events of the seven-year Tribulation.

This book, another in the Tim LaHaye Prophecy Library, makes an outstanding contribution to the study of eschatology. Readers will find themselves turning frequently to these pages for insights on what the Bible teaches about end-time events, terms, and persons. Tim LaHaye is president of Tim LaHaye Ministries and cofounder of the Pre-Trib Research Center. Ed Hindson is assistant chancellor and dean of the Institute of Biblical Studies at Liberty University. Managing editor Wayne Brindle is chairman and professor of biblical studies at Liberty University.
