The following resolution was adopted by both the Conservative Baptist Home Mission Society and the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society in Denver, Colorado, at the Annual Meetings in June, 1958:

“WHEREAS, the constituency of the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society has manifested a deep desire for real oneness among us and a real concern on all sides that the present distress over the doctrinal and legal implications of certain proposed constitutional changes be ended; and, WHEREAS, the constituency of the Society is predominently Pre-millennial; and, WHEREAS, it is the desire of the constituency that we shall maintain a Pre-millennial testimony in our gospel witness in this world; and, WHEREAS, we desire to maintain this witness in our fellowship without militating against the original basis of fellowship in our Society respecting our churches and messengers; BE IT RESOLVED - (l) That it is the desire of this body of messengers to the CBFMS to endorse the established policy of our Board in its determination to appoint only those missionaries who shall in addition to their unqualified agreement with the Society’s Confession of Faith, be in unqualified agreement with the Pre-millennial view of the coming of our Lord; and (2) That the constituency shall further endorse the established policy of our Board in its determination to appoint only those secretaries and other representatives who hold the Pre-millennial belief concerning the Second Coming of our Lord; and (3) That our constituency in its Annual and Regional Meetings shall elect only such board members and officers as hold the Pre-millennial view of the Second Coming of our Lord; and (4) That these shall be understood to be standing resolutions, and spread upon the Minutes of the Society, and shall neither be altered or amended

except by two-thirds majority of the messengers present and voting at any regular Annual Meeting. “

Dr. Vincent Brushwyler, in the August-September Conservative Baptist missionary paper, used the following headlines, “Unity Prevails in Denver Meetings.”

Some of us will remember in the Annual Meeting of the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society in Brooklyn, May 23-29, 1956, that one of the major discussions in business meetings was whether or not to amend the doctrinal statement by adding the word “Pre-millennial.” The proposed wording was, “We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, sinless in His life, making atonement for the sin of the world b...
