8 The Ordinance Of The Lord’s Supper
A. There are some significant parallels between the Passover and the Lord’s Supper.
1. The Passover was eaten “in haste”; “loins girded” and “staff in hand”—Hebrews 4:7–9.
2. The Passover was eaten in safety, in human and divine fellowship, under blood protection—Exodus 12:1–14.
3. The Passover was eaten in the night—Revelation 1.
4. God delivered His children from the wrath of darkness, danger and death—Exodus 12 c.f., I Corinthians 15.
5. The Egyptians and their land were severely judged by God—I Thessalonians 5:3.
6. God’s children were numerically a minority in the land of Egypt—Exodus 1—40.

B. The Lord’s Supper is a memorial, a symbol, and a prophecy.
1. A Memorial—I Corinthians 11:24, 25.
2. A Symbol—I Corinthians 11:24.
a. It is an act of examination—I Corinthians 11:28.
b. It is an act of destiny—I Corinthians 11:26.
c. It is an act of obedience—I Corinthians 11:24; John 14:15.
d. It is an act of belief—Acts 2:42.
e. It is an act of covenant—I Corinthians 11:25.
f. It is an act of uniformity—I Corinthians 11:18, 20, 23.
