THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MYTH, by Walter R. Martin and Norman H. Klann Zondervan Publ. House. Grand Rapids, Mich., 1955. 205 pp. $2.35).

Although not new, this volume is timely and valuable for those who must meet the rising tide of cultism. One of the Modem Cult series, it, in the words of authors Martin and Klann, “tells the whole truth about one of the world’s worst and most clever pseudo-Christian masquerades, whose numerous, ever-smiting emissaries can never change the fact that their religion denies the Core of Christianity: The Book, the Blood, the Blessed Hope.” These authors do not hesitate to characterize SCIENCE AND HEALTH as “The key that locks the Scriptures so that they can be twisted to Satan’s ends.” Far from being the instrument of divine revelation that she claimed to be. Mrs. Eddy is shown to be an unhesitating plagiarist and calculating materialist. The authors examine Christian Science theology in the light of the Scriptures, finding it thoroughly un-Scriptural and, like Grape-Nuts (which are neither grapes nor nuts), neither Christianity nor Science! For those who are impressed by the “niceness” of the average devotee of the “Mother Eddy Cult,” the chapter on “Christian Science Censorship and Propaganda” will provide an awakening shock, revealing the ruthlessness and greed which has marked the unrelenting and effective campaigns against publications averse to Christian Science. The authors conclude that “Mrs. Eddy continues to reign supreme and unrivaled, a hollow queen from beyond the grave”: and that the religion she founded, “like other false religions, is a glowworm which has need of the darkness in order to shine.”

MY FAVORITE PICTURE STORIES EROM THE BIBLE, by Dena Korjker (Zondervan Publ. House, Grand Rapids, Mich., 1961, 150 pp.. $1.95).

The writer is well known for her several books especially for little children. She has unusual ability in presenting the Bible in a simple yet reverent manner. This work presents 35 stories with pictures from the Old Testament, beginning with the creation; and 32 from tile New Testament, ending with Revelation. The New Testament stories include the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of our Lord, which are frequently excluded from Bible story books today! Many beautiful color and charcoal sketch illustrations are included. This is recommended for the pre-school to junior age child.
