William G. Hupper. An Index to English Periodical Literature on the Old Testament and Ancient Near Eastern Studies. Volume 9, parts 1–2. Lanham, MD: Scarecrow, 2011. Pp. cliii + 569; xxxiii + 681. ISBN 978–0-8108–7805–1. $200.00 cloth.

The final volume of William Hupper’s extensive index for First Testament (FT) periodical literature was published in 2011. The first volume appeared in 1987, sixteen years after Hupper began collecting bibliographic information. This concluding volume contains the author, subject, foreign word, and citation indexes as well as corrections and additions for the previous eight volumes. Because of the ninth volume’s considerable size (1,250 pages excluding approx 190 pages of front matter), the volume is divided into two separate parts. Hupper’s entire index project was created with a fourfold purpose: (1) to collect all English periodical literature treating the FT from the first issue of a journal up until 1970; (2) to gather especially references for obscure, but important, periodicals; (3) to utilize a schema that allowed precision in defining subject headings narrowly; and (4) to include articles in English even if found in journals that are written predominantly in another language.

These indexes gather data from the first eight volumes of the project, which were divided into the following seven primary sections, with subsections.
