The Mystery of the Incarnation. By Norman Anderson. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 1978. 162 pp. Paper, $3.95.

This book’s author has recently retired as professor of Oriental Laws and director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies at the University of London. In six chapters Anderson has given an excellent treatment of his subject, including the background to the contemporary debate regarding Christology, a survey of Christological controversies throughout history, a discussion of the Incarnation in the context of comparative religions, examples of the contemporary Christological debate, and a statement of the author’s own views. The book is highly recommended. It will serve well as collateral reading in any course in Christology.

The Death of Christ. By Norman F. Douty. Rev. ed. Irving, TX: Williams & Watrous Publishing Co., 1978. 180 pp. $9.95.

In this volume the author argues for unlimited atonement. Although he adopts the four points of Calvinism, including total depravity, unconditional election, efficacious grace, and perseverance of the saints, he affirms that Christ died for all rather than only for the elect. The book is closely reasoned, deals with a number of important Scriptures, and is a general defense of the concept of unlimited atonement. The work is a competent treatment of the subject, and while it may not persuade those who hold to limited atonement, it provides a solid basis for those who interpret Scripture as teaching that Christ died for all.

Resurrection: True or False? By Spiros Zodhiates. Ridgefield, NJ: AMG Publishers, 1977. 129 pp. Paper, $1.75.

This book approaches the massive biblical theme of resurrection with a unique method. In twenty-one concise chapters, Greek scholar Zodhiates virtually puts himself in the place of a reader who is examining the biblical position on the truth of bodily resurrection. Thus a strong evangelistic appeal is interwoven throughout the work. Much solid biblical help is offered to the reader here, and its value lies in its careful defense of Christ’s resurrection, as well as its demonstration of the bearing of this truth on all humanity.
