The Atoning Death of Christ. By Ronald Wallace. Westchester, IL: Crossway Books, 1981. 147 pp. Paper, $6.95.

This volume is another fine contribution in the series “Foundations for Faith,” of which Peter Toon is the general editor. The author was formerly professor of theology at Columbia Theological Seminary. He presents here a valuable study of the doctrine of the Atonement. Though he writes in a conservative vein, he leans rather heavily at times on writers who are less than orthodox without recognizing them as such. The book will serve as valuable collateral reading on the college or seminary level.

The Illustrated Bible Dictionary. Edited by J. D. Douglas et al. 3 vols. Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House. Publishers, 1980. xvi + 576 pp. $99.95 (3 vols).

Published jointly with Inter-Varsity Press in England and Hodder & Stoughton in Australia, this reference work is a revision of The New Bible Dictionary, published by Inter-Varsity Press in 1962. Profusely illustrated with beautiful color photographs, maps, diagrams, and charts, which complement up-to-date articles by an assortment of conservative biblical and theological scholars, the three-volume set will be very serviceable for both the family library and the pastor’s study.

F. D. Lindsey

Creation: A Scientists Choice. By Zola Levitt. San Diego: Creation-Life Publishers, 1981. 131 pp. Paper, $3.95.

The author presents in part of this book a lengthy interview with John N. Moore (professor of natural science at Michigan State University), well-known Christian in the field of science. With the informal

question-and-answer style, Levitt helpfully covers the basic ground of the claims of special creation as a viable model for origins, and deals with many of the problems faced by evolution as a model. What makes this book different is the remainder of the material, after the interview which includes many charts, graphs, and comparative analyses related to the area of science and the Bible. This information should prove highly valuable to teachers and others interested in this field of study.

Jerusalem: The Christian Herald Photoguide. Edited by Dave Foster. Chappaqua, NY: Christian Herald Books. 1980. 127 pp. $12.95.

Although this book is primarily a pictorial guide through Jerusalem it also discusses the city from pre-Israelite Jerusalem to the present. It is beautifully done.
