A HINDU PRINCIPAL once asked a Christian schoolgirl in India why she refused to sing the praises of Krishna, while the Hindu girls were quite happy to join in singing “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name.” The girl answered, “I can’t sing to anyone but Jesus.”

Her reply underscores the most foundational fact of the Christian faith: Jesus Christ is central, and He alone is to be worshiped. He is the object of every Christian’s worship because He is God. And because He is God, He is the only answer to the human problem of sin. The awfulness of sin is answered by the awesomeness of the Savior.

Several articles in this issue focus on Jesus Christ and the believer’s commitment to Him. Early believers were willing to die for Him (Wright’s article), those who believe in Him are given new birth (MacLeod’s article), Christ’s humiliating death on the cross runs counter to the world’s clamor for honor and status (Heller-man’s article), believers find joy in praying to Him (Kreider’s article), and love for Christ motivates Christians to share their faith with others (Strauss’s article).

May you enjoy these articles that focus on Christ, who, as Charles Spurgeon wrote, “is the great central fact in the world’s history.”
