On May 22, 1843, a wagon train of one thousand pioneers set out from Elm Grove, near Kansas City, on the Oregon Trail. This trek across Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon covered a distance of almost 2,200 miles. This was the first major migration to the Pacific Northwest in the mid- 1800s.

That same year Bibliotheca Sacra was first published in New York City, a pioneering concept in theological publications.

Also in 1843 Charles Dickens’s novel A Christmas Carol was released. Like Bibliotheca Sacra this novel has been in continuous publication for 165 years.

Dallas Seminary acquired the journal in 1943, almost three- quarters of a century ago. In its entire history of 165 years, Bibliotheca Sacra has remained a staunch defender and expression of the Christian faith. The editorial staff stands dedicated to providing the best in biblically sound, scholarly articles and periodical and book reviews. Subscribers—including pastors, scholars, students, missionaries, and laypersons—represent every state of the Union and sixty-five foreign countries.
