We will wipe Israel off the map!” So predicts Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of Iran. Is this likely to happen? Some think so, since Iran is developing nuclear warheads that can reach Israel, only 1,100 miles from Tehran.

What does God say? In the tribulation, which will follow the rapture of the church, many nations will come against Israel in what is known as the Battle of Gog and Magog (Ezek. 38:1-6). But those armies will be destroyed by the Lord (39:1-6).

Then the Lord Jesus will return to the earth, establish His kingdom on the earth (Isa. 9:7), and rule from Jerusalem for one thousand years (Rev. 20:1-6). Israel has not been replaced by the church, as some teach. God has promised that Israel will be in the land as a nation (Gen. 15:18-21; 17:19; Jer. 12:14-16; Ezek. 36:24; 37:21-22; Amos 9:14-15; Mic. 2:12) under her king, the Messiah (2 Sam. 7:12-13; Zech. 14:9; Rom. 11:26). All believers can rejoice that Israel has a great future as a nation, as author H. Wayne House spells out in his article “The Future of National Israel,” and it will not depend on the whims or power of finite humans.
