THE EPISTLE OF PAUL TO THE ROMANS, by F. F. Bruce (Wm. B. Eerdmans Publ. Co., Grand Rapids, Mich., 1963, 288 pp., $3.00).

This Volume VI of the Tyndale New Testament Commentaries will certainly take its place among usable aids for study of this remarkable epistle but does not set itself among the great in the field. The analysis is splendid; the exegetical aid leaves much to be located elsewhere.

EXPOSITORY SERMONS ON REVELATION, Vol. 2, by W. A. Criswell (Zondervan Publ. House, Grand Rapids, Mich., 1963, 184 pp., $2.95).

The word “sermons” suggests the style of this fine volume on Revelation, chapters 2 and 3. Although necessarily not a detailed study, it forcibly expresses the vibrant up-to-date message of Revelation for the contemporary church. The gift of expository preaching given to Dr. Criswell is well represented. An especially challenging portion identifies the faithful testimony of such men as Hubmaier, Mantz, Waldo, Bunyan with the shining stars in the hand of Christ, as reflected in the letter to the church of Sardis. The book is highly recommended for the edification and encouragement of today’s faithful Gospel ministers.

THE NEW BIBLE SURVEY, by J. Lawrence Eason (Zondervan Publ. House, Grand Rapids, Mich., 1963, 544 pp:, $6.95).

The aim of this book has been met commendably, an author who has not taught Bible college survey (but rather English and literature) writing a text for introductory Bible survey courses. A Presbyterian elder, he is clearly an evangelical rather than a fundamentalist. Many will find this book both helpful and interesting.

CULTS AND ISMS, ANCIENT AND MODERN, by J. Oswald Sanders (Zondervan Publ. House, Grand Rapids, Mich., revised 1962, 167 pp., $2.50).

First issued in 1948 as HERESIES, ANCIENT AND MODERN, this volume omits many ancient cults except as important today. Most varieties of the present day are included. The standard of judgment is revealed Scripture. Teachings of the various cults are well outlined. This is good as a classroom text or for private study.

THE VALIDITY OF THE VIRGIN BIRTH, by Howard A. Hanke (Zondervan Publ. House, Grand Rapids, Mich., 1963, 122 pp., $2.50).

For a clear and concise study of the virgin birth, this book is to be commended. The author shows the strength of Isa. 7:14 and 9:6,
