Introduction to the First Edition
It seems as if more and more seminary journals are competing as to how far out they may go in absurdity. Some of the article titles are unintelligent and require a dictionary to interpret the meaning. And even more disturbing, the articles are moving further away from shedding light on the Bible and helping us all understand better spiritual truth. Academia is beginning to reign and rule and philosophy is the name of the game not theology.
Our motto at TYNDALE is “leading the way back.” And by this we mean a return to common sense, a resurrection of the science of solid, dependable hermeneutics, and a straightforward honoring of the Word of God, its simplicity and clarity. Since the 1960s, evangelicals have fallen in love with the world and the culture. We’ve become fascinated with a certain elitism and even secularism. But TYNDALE Seminary believes we can maintain a certain sharpness and objectivity without taking on the high-and-mightiness of our culture.
Thus, we hope this journal can be academic, in a good sense, but still down-to-earth and understandable. But more, we want it to challenge the mind and yet warm the heart toward the Lord Jesus Christ and make clear His majestic Word! When we begin to fall in love with our own mind, we will quickly move away from the mind of God!
The CONSERVATIVE THEOLOGICAL JOURNAL will be doctrinally dispensational, pretribulational concerning the rapture of the church and premillennial. TYNDALE nor this publication will shrink back from foolish criticism by those who find these truths naive. Biblically, and with solid reasoning, we plan to proclaim these important doctrines in this publication. And of course, other urgent biblical subjects will also be dealt with in each printing.
We make another promise. Book reviews published in each volume will be fresh and current. We have seen some reviews of books that were published more than five years ago! Our reviews will be up-to-date.
May God bless you with these articles!
