Two Years And Counting

It has been almost two years now since The Conservative Theological Society and the accompanying Journal has been going. Though the Journal circulation has been steady at between 300–400 issues, we feel it has already had a profound impact on theological thinking. But soon, we will be adding about 350 more volumes published and distributed to the top leaders in theology. We want to send the Journal even to those who do not hold our persuasions. But the desire is to influence them and possibly make a difference in their understanding of God’s Word.

As we move into year three of this organization and publication, we wish to pledge again to publish articles that are down-to-earth, spiritual, and relevant. Looking back over the last two years, we may not have always accomplished this. But this is our renewed desire.

Also, we want to have articles that deal with what we believe are two main burning issues: (1) The growing divisions developing in Evangelical interpretation (hermeneutics), and, (2) The lack of deep, spiritual teaching in the churches. Both issues are troubling to the maturity of our people, and ultimately, to the gospel message and the spreading forth of the Word of God.

This is an invitation to our readers to submit ideas that touch on these two subjects. Please call us before you begin your research. A small stipend is given for each article published.

A suggestion to pastors and Sunday school teachers for the Fall, 1999: Consider a one year series entitled, The Year of the Bible. The four monthly quarters of the year could be dedicated to: 1. How we got our Bible. Inspiration, inerrancy, and authority of Scripture. 2. The Old Testament Canon. A survey of the Old Testament books. 3. The New Testament Canon. A survey of the New Testament books. 4. A study of the great and inspiring verses from both the Old and New Testaments.

The people in the churches need to fall in love again with the awesomeness of God’s marvelous and inspired Word. Those who teach during The Year of the Bible should do so with great spiritual preparation and prayer. “May we hear from You again, Lord!” Gaussen helps us conclude:

It is God himself [who] has not only put his seal to all these facts [of the Bible], and constituted himself the author of all these commands, and the revealer of all these truths, but that, further, he has caused them to be given to his Church in the order, and in the measure, and in the terms which he has deemed most suitable to his heavenly purpose.
