Unveiling Eternity: Discover Your Forever Future. By John Claeys. N.P., 2023. 391 pp. Paper, $16.99.

In Unveiling Eternity, John Claeys takes the reader from what God originally intended for eternity when He created the universe to what eternity future will be like. This future will include a new heaven and earth.

The book is crystal clear on the gospel of eternal life. That life can never be lost (pp. 36, 38, 107, 115, 204). Claeys says that in eternity, there will be two “overarching” groups of people: Those who have believed in Jesus for eternal life and those who have not (p. 9). Those in the lake of fire will be there because they were not in the book of life. They did not believe in Christ for eternal life (p. 43).

The purpose of the book is to challenge and encourage believers to live for eternity (p. 329). To that end, Claeys explains what the Scriptures say about it. The eternal kingdom of Christ will be beyond anything we can imagine.

In God’s original creation, He wanted mankind to multiply and rule over the works of His hands. Those objectives will continue in eternity (pp. 17–19).

God created man to have a perfect relationship with others and with Him. Sin, however, marred those relationships. Sin’s consequences, including physical death, passed to all men. This death also has a spiritual component. Claeys says that Adam and Eve were spiritually saved by believing in the One who was to come (p. 34).

Claeys presents several principles and facts, supporting them with Scripture. For example, he explains that man is comprised of three parts: body, soul, and spirit. The spirit connects the soul to the body (p. 45). He explains that the idea of soul sleep is unbiblical. After death, the soul is aware and can speak. People also learn after they die (p. 57). This is true for believers and unbelievers alike. He shows that every believer who dies today goes to be with the Lord (pp. 45, 46, 50).

Claeys rightly points out that the lake of fire and its torments are eternal (p. 57). He believes that the people there will never understand that eternal life would have been given to them had they believed in

Christ for it. They will always think they are in the lake of fire because their works were not good enough (pp. 57, 60).

Prior to Christ’s resurrection, paradise was located in Hades. Now, it is in heaven with Him. In eternity, it will be with Him on the new earth (p. 73). Eternity will not be a recycled or renewed universe, but a completely new one. During the millennial kingdom, dramatic changes will be made to ...
