The Master’s Seminary has recently completed the accreditation renewal process with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Of special note was our proposal to initiate a new Th.D. program. I am happy to announce that on July 10, 2000, the WASC Commission reaccredited The Master’s Seminary and approved our request to offer the Doctorate of Theology degree. We are delighted at God’s blessing in these two issues. The team who visited our campus noted that the 2000 visit, as in previous WASC visits (1992, 1996), identified the intentionality, integration, focus, degree structure, distinctive model, faculty scholarship, and productivity in the seminary’s training program as noteworthy.
Included here is a copy of our recent press release: “The Master’s Seminary of Sun Valley, California announces the establishment of a Doctor of Theology (Th.D.) program in four areas of specialization: Bible Exposition, Old Testament, New Testament, and Systematic Theology. This new program offers a select number of highly qualified applicants the opportunity to attain the apex of theological training. The three-to-five-year program is predicated upon previous completion of a validated Master of Theology degree. This new program combines the best of European and American methodology in that its basic architecture consists of one-on-one mentoring coordinated with directed studies, research seminars, and dissertation writing and defense. It is designed for individuals preparing to continue in or to enter vocations requiring ordination. Emphasis is placed on training the next generation of professors to staff seminary and college/university Biblical Studies faculties. An experienced graduate-level faculty ensures the depth, intensity, specialization and scholarship of the program. The doctoral faculty includes Drs. William D. Barrick (Director of Doctoral Studies), Irvin A. Busenitz, Trevor P. Craigen, F. David Farnell, Michael A. Grisanti, Richard L. Mayhue, Larry D. Pettegrew, James E. Rosscup, and Robert L. Thomas. The Th.D. program has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
“Located on the campus of Grace Community Church, pastored by the world-renowned pastor-teacher, author, and seminary president, Dr. John MacArthur, The Master’s Seminary offers prospective students the opportunity to observe and minister in a local church environment. Seminary facilities include a world-class theological research library housing over 110,000 volumes and over 600 periodical titles.”
Not all of our significant activities have occurred on campus. Many of the faculty have been traveling during the spring and summer months. Dr. Thomas taught at a pastor’s conference in Quebec March 24–26. Our presid...
