William Jenkyn’s Exposition On Jude

This dissertation provides a historical response to the debates of the modern two kingdoms doctrine using William Jenkyn’s exposition on Jude as a lens to demonstrate that the relationship between sacred and secular, Scripture and natural law, and redemption and creation was always overlapping in the English context in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Jenkyn’s expositional approach and arguments not only reflected the conventional approach of his own era, but also inherited the understanding of Augustine and Reformers such as Calvin, Beza, and Perkins in the sixteenth century. Moreover, Jenkyn’s argument, as we shall see, also contributes to the current debates from the angle of the doctrine of reprobation and from his exposition of Jude understood from his own redemptive historical approach.
